Madness Network - Terrible NEws
Greetings to you all....
Well, I know it's been far too long since I've posted here, but I have some unfortunate news to share. I was very torn about the best way to announce this, but I figured this forum would cover pretty much all the important folks, and I could get away with only explaining it once.
It seems as though the Madness Network will be going off the air. I have no idea for how long, or really even why. I just got the schedule for next year from Northwestern University, and I'm not on it. I am presuming at this point that it's because enough students finally signed up that there was no room left on the schedule for alumni...something I've always known was a possibility. I have a call out to our programming director, but he's out for the Christmas Break and hasn't gotten back to me yet.
This news is coming at sort of a bad time, too...I found this out the same week that I was told I'd be laid off from my day job sometime in January...needless to say, it's been a rough Christmas.
And this leads me into my next request...I know that quite a few fans of my show, not to mention regular guests, have offered to bombard the station with email, letters and phone calls on my behalf. Since I really don't know where my life situation is headed right now, and I haven't gotten a chance yet to speak with the director, I ask that everyone HOLD OFF on this, until such a time as I can get things figured out. This could even be a simple mistake.
And even if it's not, I've had a wonderful time with the show, and it's really grown into something much bigger than I'd ever imagined it could be. Thank you ALL, for supporting me, sending me materials, communicating with me, and sending in constructive criticism. I really couldn't have done it without you all.
At any rate, I'll be sure to keep you guys updated, once I find out more details. I don't know if I'll have another show or two left or not, but I'll do my damnedest.

As an avid listener of The Madness Network (as well as having the fortune to meet Loopy in person and be in-studio with her), the news that The Madness Network is off the air saddens me. I know many people will miss not hearing the late Friday night dementia broadcasts as I will. My best wishes go out to Loopy in what has been a rough road for her as of late. We hope you can get back to a state of "normality (a term I use quite loosly)" and make a speedy return to the airwaves.
Seeing this news just got me thinking about stuff.... please bare with me if the following seems like meandering waffle...
it seems that in the last year comedy shows have been departing from the airwaves left and right; First Nummy Muffin Cocoa Butter, then The All You Can Eat Buffet of Musical Madness, now The Madness Network. Hopefully Loopy will get back on the air soon and keep the madness flowing into our speakers. If you cater to a comedy show that's still going and love what you hear, tell the station! Positive listener feedback makes station staff people feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :-)
You know what I think needs to be done in general? Get More Dementia Shows On The Air! Anyone in here that has ties to a college station (or any other station that would be open to a comedy show), use them and try to get some airtime for dementia. It took me a year of co-hosting a traditional blues show (which is one of my of my top music genres) at WLFM for me to be able to get the station staff's attention and to let them say "We liked what you did last year, so we're giving you your own show show of whatever format you want." If you have the connections that could get you a dementia show, exploit the connections and spread dementia across the airwaves. (especially if you're in an area that void of the good Doctor)
And on that note, good night all!
Keep that dementia flowing,
